The Coming ‘Global Brain’ – Or How Antichrist Will Counterfeit The Divine Attributes Of God!

All else should be honestly presented as speculation. It is into that category that I would place this article. Please, take it as such. P.B.}

As a Christian believer, and an avid student of Bible prophesy, I have always had a fascination with technology. Technology and the coming Mark of the Beast are joined at the hip, so to speak. Realizing this, I try (as much as possible) to stay abreast of the latest innovations.

The development of new platforms and applications is nearly impossible to keep up with; and the capabilities of the systems now being ‘birthed’ are far beyond the comprehension of the average person. I say birthed for good reason. Much of what is on the horizon, and even now being implemented, has characteristics we would formerly only attribute to humanity.

In this day and age most stay in touch with ‘what’s up’ by closely monitoring trends; and try to maintain an illusion of relevance by learning the latest catchphrases with which to embellish their conversations (we’ve come a long way from ‘Groovy, man!’ and ‘Far out!’ haven’t we? Yes, I do realize I just dated myself). Although I don’t consider myself a ‘trendy’ person, and try to abstain from overmuch use of catchphrases, there is one catchphrase that has definitely caught my attention. One I consider to be quite ominous. The ‘Global Brain’.

Believe it or not there is even a Wikipedia page on the Global Brain! Here is the intro:

The global brain is a metaphor for the planetary ICT network (Information and Communications Technology network) that interconnects all humans and their technological artifacts. As this network stores ever more information, takes over ever more functions of coordination and communication from traditional organizations, and becomes increasingly intelligent, it increasingly plays the role of a brain for the planet Earth.

The World-wide web in particular resembles the organization of a brain with its webpages (playing a role similar to neurons) connected by hyperlinks (playing a role similar to synapses), together forming an associative network along which information propagates. Such propagation is similar to the spreading activation that neural networks in the brain use to process information in a parallel, distributed manner.

Much to my surprise the catchphrase in question is not exactly a new one! The term ‘global brain’ was coined in 1982 by Peter Russell in his book The Global Brain. Since then there have been many think-tanks and other ventures spring up which are devoted entirely to the study and development of technology associated with this concept such as:

• The Global Brain group founded in 1996 by Francis Heylighen and Ben Goertzel.
• The Global Brain Institute (GBI) founded in 2012 by the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence.
• The NervousNet group who have recently started developing a “Planetary Nervous System” which includes a “Global Participatory Platform” as part of the large-scale FuturICT project.
• Many others could be added to a rapidly growing list!

In today’s various technology sectors everyone who is anyone has their focus on the rapid evolution of the IoT (internet of things); seeking an understanding of what it will take to ensure them a slice of the action. As things are developing in such a rapid manner tech giants are increasingly worried they might get left behind, and find themselves stuck with systems which, although are currently top of the line equipment, may suddenly become outdated, and of extremely low value.

A good example is that AT&T recently sold their complete network of cell towers for what was considered a very reasonable price. Why would a communications giant sell off the very infrastructure they have spend years and countless dollars constructing? Exactly what is their ‘eye for the future’ gazing upon? You guessed it: the rapidly evolving system called ‘The Global Brain’!

A Glimpse Of Things Soon To Come

We now are starting to get a good picture of the future incarnation of the World Wide Web, and boy has it explained some things to me. Back in 1980, when I turned to faith in Christ, I would try to envision what format the Beast system of Revelation 13 would utilize to control the entire planet. I knew it had to do with commerce and restricting the ability to buy and sell.

But beyond the bar-code scanners at the supermarket, which were only a few years old at the time, there was not a lot going on in the technology sector that the average Joe was aware of. So I just kept studying (and scratching my head a lot). And even years later with the development of an internet over the phone lines I still saw problems with global control utilizing a system which had coverage over only such a small portion of the globe.

Along came the next generation of communication: the personal cell phone! (I still remember my friend Jeff thought he was so cool lugging around that heavy suitcase it took to power his first Satellite phone!) It is quite the phenomenon if you think about how fast cell phones caught on, and have so completely dominated things. They have transformed the lives and social behavior of countless people.

But even so there is still a lapse in coverage, and much of the world has no access to this system of data exchange, so I can still see an obvious roadblock to the global monitoring and data distribution necessary to enforce the Mark. This is all about to change in such a remarkable fashion which will probably make the rapid ‘invasion’ of humanity by the smart phone seem a bit inconsequent. A new 5g (fifth generation) system with *unknown capabilities is being rapidly developed in conjunction with the deployment of a vast new satellite network.

*They don’t yet know exactly what they are building will end up looking like; because technology is developing so fast they don’t even know what will be in use by this system when it is fully implemented. They are just building it! We live in an age where technology advances so rapidly, and new platforms are so quickly implemented upon their development (often while they are still IN development), that we could very well see things in use just a couple of short years from now that haven’t even been thought of yet! Not to mention the complex systems and data mining algorithms currently in use that are so advanced I do not have the savvy to describe them, nor most likely have you the ability to understand it if I did!

The World-Wide-Web In Orbit

The next generation of wireless data transfer will be an extremely large number of low-orbit satellites blanketing the ENTIRE planet with signal coverage. The signal path will then become vertical instead of horizontal; thus eliminating the hindrances the current ‘cell tower’ model presents with transmission blocked by various obstacles. And with WiFi hubs providing coverage to large building, subways, or any other areas lacking access to the giant hotspot in the sky, there will no longer be such a thing as ‘no signal found’! The entire planet will be caught in the inter-‘net’.

Whether in a megalopolis, a desert, a jungle, at sea, or the North Pole the entire populous of the planet will soon have access to the Web; and, frighteningly so, the inverse will also be true! Those in control of the other end of this data pipeline will have world wide access to the citizens of planet Earth as well. And just what will be on the other end of this unhindered data flow?

Enter The Global Brain!

The human brain is an amazing computer in itself. The connectivity and potential for data transfer and storage in our brain is nearly unfathomable. Here is a quote  listed in another article of mine:

It is estimated that we have over 100 billion neurons (also called nerve cells or brain cells), which is about the number of stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. There are also trillions of supportive cells in the brain called glia.

Each neuron is connected to other neurons by up to 40,000 individual connections (called synapses) between cells. Multiplying 100 billion neurons times 40,000 synapses is equivalent to the brain having more connections in it than there are stars in the universe.

A piece of brain tissue the size of a grain of sand contains 100,000 neurons and 1 billion synapses, all “talking” to one another.

Even allowing this quote involves some ‘guesstimation’ it none the less confronts us with the reality of the enormous complexity of the brain and its functionality. Even conservative estimates place the number of synapses in a human brain at upwards of 1,000 trillion synaptic connections, which some claim would be equal to a computer with a 1 trillion bit per second processor. What could possibly rival that?

The Quantum Computer! A rapidly evolving computing technology capable of handling information in such vast quantities and unbelievable speeds that it is reaching levels many are saying approaches a self-aware intelligence! The processing power and data storage of the next generation computers (some claim they are already here we just haven’t been clued in yet) will surpass the capabilities of the amazing human brain. This is referred to as ‘the Singularity’ by the Brainiacs; or the day when computers become smarter than humans.

If you think that is just hyperbole, do some research on the latest breakthroughs in computing systems, data transfer, and data storage. There are developing innovations in this area that will make the lightning speed processing of today’s super computers seem like a octogenarian out for a stroll in comparison! The result will be a network of computing systems so complex and powerful that it will be able to monitor not only the entire history of a persons archived information (which is much more advanced than most imagine); but also the REAL TIME data associated with their location, activities, and on going conversations. An indescribably powerful non-human intelligence keeping an eye on humanity, and able to ingest and digest this info on each and every one of us at the same time and on an ongoing basis!

IMHO: Pardon me, if I am not comfortable with an all-seeing and all-knowing non-human intelligence monitoring every aspect of my life, and making decisions on my behalf (or possibly assigning a ‘risk level’ assessment to me)! I already have a God, thank you very much, and I am NOT in the market for another!

Picture a world (close at hand) where sensors, cameras, microphones, and meters are located in not just smart phones and computers but in every nook and cranny of our existence. Our cars, our televisions, our appliances, our thermostats and utility meters, security cameras, street lights, public transportation, and so on. And let’s not forget that ever-present swarm of millions of drones, blimps, and other ‘eyes in the sky’ the technocrats are prophesying will soon grace the atmosphere of this planet. It is coming soon!

All these feeding a constant stream of data to the ever watchful Global Brain. And this not (necessarily benevolent) brain will have the means to evaluate that unbelievably immense amount of info, make critical decisions, and respond with data of its own. The opportunities for the control (or culling) of the populous this presents are absolutely mind-numbing.

Enter The Beast

And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. Revelation 13:1

The Scriptures speak of an evil world-encompassing entity which will dominate and decimate the planet in the final years of this era. Sitting as ruler over this Beast will be one who is a beast himself. Antichrist (aka the man of sin), the fulfillment of Satan’s twisted desire and prideful plan to become like God and rule over humanity; worshiped and revered by the masses.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:12-14

In order for Satan’s false Christ to counterfeit the role of God, and show himself as such to the masses, he must be able to also counterfeit the attributes of God. This will be a bit tricky to pull off considering he is NOT God, merely a created finite being with some very haughty aspirations! What are some of the attributes he will have to fake?

1. God’s Sovereignty: This refers to God being in complete control as he directs all things. Antichrist will need a means of exercising complete control over the affairs of mankind.
2. God’s Omnipresence: The omnipresence of God refers to him being present everywhere at once. Antichrist will need a means to impose his presence into every facet of human activity.
3. God’s Omniscience: The omniscience of God refers to him being ‘all knowing’. Antichrist will need to know everything about everyone. This will require not only an archived database of each person’s life history, but an ability to monitor their current activities.
4. God’s Veracity: This refers to the unquestionable truth of his words. Antichrist will need a means to propagandize humanity into accepting what he says as absolute fact.
5. God’s Benevolence: This means God is both willing and able to bestow favor upon those he chooses. Antichrist will need a means to keep tabs on the obedience or disobedience of each and every person; and also the means to bestow reward upon each of those who meet his demands.
6. God’s Omnipotence: This refers to God being ‘all powerful’. Antichrist will need the means to maintain complete control of all power whether it be military, industrial, economic, political, financial, or religious.
7. God’s Wrath: As the Scripture declares: ‘whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.’ (John 3:36); so also will Antichrist pour out his wrath upon those who do not obey him. And he will need the means to enforce this all encompassing power on not only a global or regional level, but also in a very specific individual manner.

How will the Evil One mimic all these things? Though in himself he lacks the ability to do so, through a vast network of A. I. (artificially intelligent) computers communicating with the IoT (internet of things) through the G5 (fifth generation) internet system, Antichrist will be able to execute a command and control of this planet that will quite remarkably counterfeit the divine attributes of God Almighty!

And the Antichrist controlled Beast system will not be the only evil beast to rise in that day. The coming False Prophet will impose, through a false claim of divine authority, a regiment of outrageous demands, concerning worship of Antichrist and the conducting of commerce, which will carry a death sentence for those rebels who refuse to comply!

And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Revelation 13:11-18

And, as in a similar manner as Antichrist, this beast of a False Prophet will be empowered to implement and enforce his unholy dictates through the amazingly immense capabilities of the Global Brain, the G5 system, and the multiplied billions of devices that chain mankind to the internet of things. Where I once puzzled how the Beasts of Revelation 13 could seize control of the entire globe, and enforce their evil system of domination and oppression. I wonder no more; they will have control of the Global Brain!

As I write these final words another ominous catchphrase comes to my mind: ‘Prison Planet’!

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. Luke 21:36

May the mercy and protection of God rest upon all those who love his Son, and the truth of his Holy Word; and may he keep us through the dark days ahead;
