If you have read much of my writing you’ve probably heard me say the following in one fashion or another: One of the greatest challenges I face as a voice to the Body of Christ is not only getting folks to wake up to the fact the Holy Scriptures are being horribly altered in the new Bible versions, but also to get them to understand the great damage this perverting of God’s Word is perpetrating upon his people.
Even many people who know the new Bibles are chock full of alterations and deletions of text still use them regularly; believing they can do so without ill effect. But just because an ill-effect goes unnoticed does not make it non-existent! If you are using a modern version PLEASE pray about (and give honest consideration to) this article:
Through deletions and additions of text, removal of doctrinal emphasis, using words of altered meaning, and introducing confusing errors of human reasoning, the changes to the modern Bibles are SERIOUSLY affecting the beliefs of ALL those who study and preach from them! If you think you are immune to this influence you are fooling yourself!
While there are certainly other factors involved, I fully believe one of the major reasons today’s Gospel preaching (as well as today’s Christian behavior) bears such little resemblance to that of 150 years ago is that most of today’s preaching is a watered down and corrupted message strongly influenced by watered down and corrupted Bibles! Please let me validate that claim by putting some solid proof right before your eyes.
Excuses Excuses And More Excuses!
Of all the foolish reasons I hear given for dismissing this issue the most common one is that: ‘There are a lot of people out there preaching King James Onlyism in a mean-spirited way, and I don’t want to be like those unkind folks who beat people with their King James Bible.’ (By the way, I am not King James Only. I would accept ANY other Bible accurately translated from uncorrupted manuscripts! But where is it?)
While I wholeheartedly agree we should not present ANY Christian issue in a mean spirited way, I don’t see this reasoning as a valid excuse for ignoring the problem. When dealing with such important matters (and what could be more important than matters of eternal significance?) I think we should rise to the task and address the problem head-on, earnestly seeking remedy! But how many do? Very Few!
Where is the love for the truth in the modern Christian culture? It seems to have been replaced with an attitude of: ‘Tell me just what I want to hear, and don’t bother me with things I don’t!’ But such a lackadaisical attitude is hardly beneficial to anyone; and doubtfully very pleasing to the God who demands that they that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth (John 4:24)!
The Two Streams
Yea, hath God said…? -Satan the adversary of our souls
If you have been a believer for any length of time you should have a good understanding that the efforts to corrupt the Word of God are not of recent origin. The first record we have of Satan interacting with man reveals his vile strategy of twisting and corrupting God’s words to deceive and mislead the unsuspecting; luring them into behavior contrary to God’s will.
This strategy that he employed with Adam and Eve has never changed! And this should come as no surprise. Why should he abandon a tactic that has served him so well?
And thus, down through the centuries we can clearly see this plan of action firmly in play in the activities of those who oppose God’s truth in word or deed. God’s true Word goes forth through his chosen vessels; and then Satan’s minions rise up in opposition with a counter attack on that truth. And most often the tactic employed is not a flat out denial of that truth; but a twisting and perverting of that truth to obfuscate or water it down and diminish its impact.
I call this ‘The Two Streams’. A pure stream of the river of God’s life giving Word contrasted against a polluted stream that is a mixture of twisted truths and out-right lies. And whether it’s Satan in the Garden, the false prophets of old, or the deceived and deceiving false workers of this generation, a putrid flow of corrupt words fit only for a sewage gutter has polluted the understanding of countless millions who are totally convinced they were hearing from God.
This is an on-going phenomena!
We must never underestimate the ability of the enemy to cloak this corruption in a guise acceptable to the undiscerning and unsuspecting. He has had thousands of years to hone his skills in this regard. Many of Satan’s deceptions are very subtle and very clever. They have the appearance of the genuine but are rotten to the very core. Please excuse the lingo of a Montana redneck, but if you polish up a turd and perfume it, it’s still a turd and not fit for human consumption!
We need to have this same attitude toward ALL corrupting of God’s Holy Word.
It is sewage and needs to be flushed!
Whether it’s the words of today’s false prophets, the pacifying preaching from most of today’s pulpits, or the corrupting of God’s truth so evident in the modern Bible versions, it’s ALL sewage and needs to be dealt with as such.
The Altering Of The Bible
When I talk about the corrupting of the modern versions I am not just talking about a few word choices I am not comfortable with. I am talking about unwarranted alterations that totally change what the Bible says. Here is one example (of many I show in my two free books on this subject) of what I am referring to:
Hosea 11:12 K.J.V. Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.
Now watch how these modern versions either totally alter the statement made in this verse or omit the verse altogether!
NASB: …Judah is also unruly against God, Even against the Holy One who is faithful.
AMP: …Judah is not yet steadfast with God, with the faithful Holy One.
(NIV: The verse is totally omitted in this and other versions!)
Satan is the author of confusion. One of the main sources of confusion is when someone is being presented with conflicting information. So now what have we here? What is the truth of the matter? Is Judah ‘yet ruling with God and faithful’ or is Judah ‘unruly against God who is faithful’? Do you see these two statements as saying the same thing? I sure do not! I guess the NIVers could not make up their minds so they just left out this verse altogether!
It should not take much discernment to see how changes like this could war against the faith of those new to Christ, or untaught on the wiles of the enemy. Presenting the reader with an opposing text gives Satan the means to cast doubt on the true text by saying, “Maybe it says this – maybe it says that, we just don’t know for sure what was written way back in those days!” Don’t let these subtle lies work on you! God is more than able to preserve His Word, and he has absolutely done so; but the enemy wants to steal that confidence away from you.
The modern Bibles are chock full of similar changes of text that completely changes what a verse is saying. How could God’s Words altered into conflicting statements still be considered God’s Word? How would you feel if I twisted your words in such a manner? You would be quite offended I am sure!
Are we so devoid of reason that we would think God himself is not horribly offended at the perverting of his words? I assure you he is! And the Church needs to wake up to that fact; and exercise some good discernment concerning just what IS the true Word of God and what is NOT.
The Removal Of Doctrinal Emphasis
One facet of this issue I feel greatly alters the beliefs and understanding of those who read the modern versions is the alarmingly frequent removal of key words and phrases that give strong emphasis to doctrinal truths. This strong emphasis is designed to more firmly establish these truths in our minds and hearts; and helps keep us in sync with the mind of Christ.
These eliminations of emphatic words and phrases are not just a result of sloppy translating or mere chance. In studying out this issue it became quite apparent to me certain doctrinal truths were under attack in these changes to the new Bibles.
Of particular note is the biblical call to holiness. An astounding number of verses that promote holiness as a standard of Christian living have been tampered with. The words ‘holy’ and ‘pure’ are suspiciously missing from a great number of verses in the moderns. Other verses have been altered in wording or have key phrases missing which severely diminishes the standard of holiness being presented in the Bible.
It is also quite apparent the doctrine of the deity of Christ has suffered serious attack in the modern bibles. I show many examples of this in my books. Another doctrine under attack is the reality of an eternal punishment for the wicked.
Just the hatchet job given to Mark chapter 9 in the modern versions should be enough to cause anyone great concern. I challenge you to compare Mark 9:43-48 in the KJV to the NIV or many others!
Mark 9:45 K.J.V. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
NIV+NLT+NWT+NRSV+NASB+AMP: All omit the words ‘into the fire that never shall be quenched’ from the text!
In three verses (Mark 9:44, 45, and 46) the statement that the fires of hell ‘will not be quenched’ has been removed in many versions three times! The word ‘fire’ is removed FIVE times in many versions in this one passage! Could this be part of the reason so many today do not believe in the literal fiery torments of hell that the true sayings of God so vividly describe to us?
Although we know that the love of God draws us to his grace and forgiveness, we also know from the Scriptures that the fear of God causes men to depart from evil (Proverbs 16:6). If you alter the Word to remove emphasis that is placed there to instill the fear of God in us how can this possibly be an improvement?
Colossians 1:14 K.J.V. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
NRSV+NWT+NIV+ASV+NASB+NIV: ALL OMIT ‘THROUGH HIS BLOOD’ FROM THIS VERSE.
Somewhere along the line someone decided to ‘improve’ this verse by deleting the Blood of Jesus Christ from it! If you are not greatly bothered by the removal of emphasis in the Scriptures on the Blood of Christ I honestly fear for your spiritual condition! You may need to get back to that Cross and start all over again. Something went astray somewhere, and you need to get it fixed. PRONTO!
Words Of Altered Meaning
Many fans of the modern bible versions firmly declare they are saying the same thing as the KJV just in words easier to understand. This is a gross misconception; they do NOT say the same thing! You CANNOT change words in a verse of Scripture to words of different meaning and not change what the verse is saying. Here is an excellent example also from my book ‘The True Sayings Of God’. I QUOTE:
Titus 3:10-11 K.J.V. A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
NRSV: have nothing more to do with anyone who causes divisions, since you know that such a person is perverted and sinful…
NIV: Warn a divisive person once and then warn him a second time….
NASB: Reject a factious man …
NKJV: Reject a divisive man …
ASV: A factious man after a first and second admonition refuse…
NWT: A man that promotes a sect reject him…
AMP:…a man who is factious…
Here we have the meaning-specific word ‘heretic’ (one who teaches heresy) replaced by words that in no way render the same meaning. Jesus Christ walked this earth as a factious and a divisive person! Should He be warned and rejected? Is He perverted and sinful? He came preaching the truth and it brought much division; and he rose up a faction within the religious community.
The true Gospel is quite divisive and factious. Should we stop preaching the truth so we do not cause a division between those who will not receive the truth and those who will, as this alteration to the Bible suggests? No, but we should reject a person who is a heretic! (if he rejects two admonitions.)
The true Scriptures point here the finger of blame at those who bring forth false teachings; but in the ‘modern’ gospel the finger is taken off the heretics and pointed instead at anyone who makes waves by ‘crying wolf’. (Now, you just sit quietly in your pew; and don’t you dare say anything to upset anyone!)
This passage speaking out against heresy was given to promote an on-going purification of doctrine within the Body of Christ. But now this perverted verse rebukes anyone being divisive by speaking out against false teachings and labels them as sinful! This promotes an atmosphere where heresy can now flourish. This verse of Scripture has been so severely altered that now it accomplishes exactly the opposite of what God intended! END QUOTE
The new versions do NOT say the same thing with different words. They are saying something completely different in verse after verse after verse after verse! That is why I make no hesitation to say they are NOT the true Word of God. They are a corruption of the truth; and that corruption is corrupting the understanding of those who read them. PERIOD!
The Deletions From The Bible
Most people are unaware of the enormous amount of text that is missing from the new versions. The NIV is 64,000 (that’s sixty four thousand!) words shorter than the KJV! If you would like to shorten your KJV to that size just rip out every thing from the middle of the book of Acts to the end of Revelation. That’s what it would take.
And it’s not just the NIV saying things in a more efficient manner as some would suppose. Hundreds of important phrases, and even entire verses of Scripture, are missing from the text. Try to find this verse in your NIV, NLT, or NRSV:
“But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:26:
How could anyone ever think it would be acceptable to edit that verse from God’s Word? But that is not an isolated incident. Other verses are missing as well, as are MANY key phrases that bring us proper understanding of God’s ways and his expectations of us as his people. When I read a new version I am constantly going ‘Hey! Wait a minute! Where is this phrase or that phrase?’ But someone not familiar with the true and proper text does not have that awareness.
The unsuspecting reader blows right by these deletions without a clue; and does not realize they have been short-changed time and time again!
And very rarely does anyone notice the interruption in the numbering sequence either. Does your bible jump from Mark 11:25 to Mark 11 27? Or from Acts 8:36 to 8:38? They must do this when they remove an entire verse or it would throw the rest of the numbering out of whack and folks would realize something was amiss! And while you are at it, check out the numbering of Mark 9:40-50. In many versions it’s a sad state of affairs.
Replacing Divine Wisdom With Human Reasoning
When prayerful consideration is given to a parallel study of the various versions compared to the KJV it is quite apparent the wisdom of God has been replaced with the reasoning of fallen man in a myriad of places. This also should greatly alert us to the danger of reading these altered bibles. Here is another example from ‘The True Sayings Of God’:
Proverbs 18:8 K.J.V. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
NASB+AMP: The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels…
NIV: The words of a gossip are like choice morsels…
NLT: What dainty morsels rumors are…
NKJV: The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles…
ASV: The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels…
NRSV: The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels…
NWT: The words of a slanderer are like things to be swallowed up greedily…
Now in this passage we have the ‘moderns’ describing as desirable something the A.V. describes as hurtful! We have one passage relating things through the perspective of a sanctified mind (God’s mind), and the others approaching us through a fleshly perspective that reflects the fallen condition of human reasoning. I vote to follow the sanctified mind of Christ expressed through the wording of the KJV!
Here is another example that about floored me when I first discovered it:
Galatians 5:12 K.J.V. I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
The context of this verse concerns these believers being hindered in their faith by people trying to get them to return to keeping the law; namely circumcision. In this passage, Paul states his earnest desire that those who were troubling these believers would be cut off (separated) from them. Maybe the words of Habakkuk had come to his remembrance: …the flock shall be cut off from the fold. (Habakkuk 3:17 KJV) Now notice the horrible injustice done to this text in these ‘moderns’:
NWT: I wish the men who are trying to overturn you would get themselves emasculated.
NASB: I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves.
NRSV: I wish those who unsettle you would castrate themselves!
NIV: As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves.
Can you believe this one? In case you might not know, ‘emasculation’ is the total removal of all evidence of masculinity. Are they telling us these are words Paul wrote, under the unction of the Holy Spirit, to those he was striving to be a godly example to? Would Paul have made such an uncomely statement and in his next sentence exhort them to ‘by love serve one another’; and then in his next remind them to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’? And later in the same letter inform them the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, etc.?
I don’t believe those uncomely words are Paul’s, or from the mind of Christ! (All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. Proverbs 8:8 KJV) I believe those words came from the mind of an unconverted translator.
I refuse to accept neither these dark-minded alterations, nor the books in which they are found, as inspired. It is the ages-old battle between truth and error played out in our midst. God sends forth his true Word; and then the enemy puts forth a corruption of God’s Word. We need to safeguard ourselves, and those we love, from that corruption! (Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. Psalms 119-140 KJV)
To me one of the saddest aspects of deception is the way it is so often sincerely promoted with the best of intentions. Well meaning folks who have been misled passing along that error to others; thinking they are acting in the best interests of those they are misinforming.
I honestly believe God has revealed to me that the largest contingent of deceivers at work deceiving the Body of Christ in this generation is the Body of Christ itself! And this is actually a sign of the times. One more indicator we are in the last days. How do I know that? Jesus said so in his discourse on the end-times. Many miss the truth Jesus was truly presenting in the following Scripture passage.
And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: 6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Mark 13:5-6
He was not talking about people coming along declaring themselves to be Christ as many suppose. It’s not about false Christs! He was warning his followers about people in the last days coming in the name of Jesus, declaring Jesus to be the Christ, but preaching deception and deceiving MANY! We are seeing the fulfillment of that prophesy in this day on an unbelievable scale!
Really now Paul? An end-time prophesy fulfilled by a phenomenal increase of Christians promoting deception to other Christians? ABSOLUTELY! I hope you understand this is actually happening all around you each and every day. And you need to have your guard up; or you are going to get washed away by this tsunami of deception!
The Church today is full to the brim with delusions and deceptions that are not only a great hindrance to us, but also a horrible affront to our Heavenly Father. This reality is quite sad to me, and weighs on me quite heavily. But what is sadder yet is the knowledge of what it is going to take to cure the Bride of this malady.
There is a great change on the horizon for the American Church! This shameful day where a compromised and distracted people of God are running to and fro listening to whatever falsehoods tickle their fancy will soon be replaced with a dark day where desperate times will leave room for nothing but desperate prayer! And those extremely troublesome times will place the true followers of Christ in a constant state of godly fear. A fear of listening to any voice not of God.
And in that day of great repentance millions will cast aside their phony doctrines and their phony bibles. But tragically millions of others will follow a voice that leads to perdition. There is a great sifting coming folks! You can mark my words on that one!
Let me leave you with a couple of questions to ponder, if I may.
How much of your Bible would you allow to be replaced with the words of man and it still be considered by you to be the Word of God? How many alterations would you allow before you said enough!; now this book is no longer the true Word of God? One change? Ten? One Hundred? One Thousand? The changes to the modern bibles run FAR BEYOND that amount! How can we trust them?
I can’t; and I don’t!
Where and when are YOU going to draw to line? How about here and now?
We have an accurate representation of the Words of our God in the KJV. The modern bibles are all based upon, or strongly influenced and corrupted by, an altered and corrupted Greek text that was fabricated in the 1800’s. There are two streams flowing through the landscape of Christianity in this day.
Which are you drinking from? The pure stream or the polluted one?
Blessings upon all those who love the Truth;
